Music
Having grown up as a part of a musical family, making music was
something that was nearly inescapable for Shari. As a young girl,
Shari started out singing with her sisters. She was lucky enough
to have parents who managed to get their hands on any and every
musical instrument they could, so there was no limit of opportunity
to experiment with music. Shari first started playing traditional
music in Belfast, at the suggestion of some local musicians. She
quickly took up the tin whistle and the bodhrán, and since
then has gone on to create her own style of DADGAD fingerpicking
and accompanyment on the guitar, and soon after starting on the
mandolin and fiddle.
Since then, Shari has gone on to play at many different venues
and events. In Toronto, she has played at such places as the Tranzac,
the Arbor Room, the Yellow Griffin, Whelan's Gate, and had hosted
a long-running session at The Foggy Dew. She has also been asked
to sing and play at such events as The
Chris Langan Weekend and Celtic Women events.
Shari has also begun to write her own songs. She is taking part in a
Traditional Music writers festival called
Composium
taking place on June 11th, 2005. There will be a CD released along with this
mini-festival containing the instrumental track "An Mac Suirí Mídhilis" which she co-wrote
with Kerri Brown. You can visit the Composium web page for more details on the album and the festival.
